Oslob - Whale Shark Watching

One of the many things I love doing in Cebu is travelling down south and swim with the whale sharks :) Believe me when I say that I have been here countless times already, even more than average of a local cebuano would.

Summer of 2013 was my very first visit to this beautiful place, Oslob. It was also my first time to stay in Cebu for a very long time, and went out with a few of my office mates and ever since, I have been suggesting this activity to all my Manila friends who are visiting Cebu for the first time. Most of the time they come with me, or should I say I bring them with me.

It's a 3 hour drive from the city, and for a better chance to swim with a lot of sharks, we suggest to leave the city by 4-5am. You'll pass by Carcar City where it is a must for first timers to drop by and get a treat of the famous "Lechon" and "Chicharon" from the public market. (Best Lechon I've tasted). They would even give you free taste/samples of their very crunchy pork skins. We would normally buy a kilo for 300-400php, that's good to munch after swimming with the gentle giants.

At Oslob, it has always been BCD Place. This resort is just beside the orientation place/tourism center which is very convenient. They offer cottage rentals for 200php and tables for 100php.

A very close and shots of the whale sharks. For those who want's to capture the gentle giants in the water but don't have their gopro handy, worry not as this place also offers under water cams for rent at 500php with a free CD you can take home..

Apart from this 30 minute swim, there's another place that you must visit. a 15 minute drive away is the Tumalog Falls (pic below). I love this view so much it has always been a part of the itinerary. For only 20php entrance fee, you get to marvel at this creation for the whole day and swim on its cold waters too. Its a 5 minute downhill walk from where you normally park and I suggest a habal-habal going back for another 20php.

It depends on how much time you have left, but normally a good 2 hours stay in this place is enough, especially if you want to be back to the city by dinner time :)
